鹿児島県K市の一定地区住民30歳以上全員を対象として、過去(20〜40歳の時期)の保健行動の在り方が現在の体力運動能力の水準にどのような影響性を有しているか検討することが本研究の目的であった。保健行動に関する一次アンケ-ト調査が350名について行われた。その一次調査の結果を基に対象者を60歳以上に限定して、120名の対象者に体力運動能力検査を実施した。保健行動項目はBelloc,N.B & L.Breslow(1972)らの研究から選ばれた、睡眠、朝食、間食、体重調節、適度な運動、飲酒、喫煙、生活の中の身体活動、減塩、栄養バランスの項目であった。他方、60歳以上の人のための体力運動能力項目は、開眼片足立ち、握力ならびにAAHPERD(米国の健康・体育・レクリェ-ション・ダンス連盟、1990)による体重、身長、体脂肪、柔軟性(長座体前屈)、敏捷性と動的バランス(バランス歩行)、調整力(缶置き換え)、筋持久性(腕屈伸)、心肺持久性(ハ-フマイル歩行)であった。主な結果は以下の通りであった。(1)保健行動は、病後の健康回復として行う者、健康維持増進として行う者に区別しうる。(2)体力運動能力は、60歳代と70歳代の差は認められることは少ないが、80歳代に至り急速に低下する傾向が認められた。(3)壮年期(20〜40歳代)の運動習慣は、高年期の運動習慣へと継続されている傾向がある。保健行動が多いほど、筋力(握力)、柔軟性、平衡性は高くなる傾向がある。(4)保健行動の各項目と体力運動能力との関連性は、いくつかの項目間に認められた。特に、体重調節、生活の中の身体活動、運動習慣は、現在の体力運動能力水準と関連が高いことが示唆された。
