Inner source platform development

Inner-source software development is the use of open source best practices for firm-internal software development. In past case study research, we identified the hypothesis that inner source may be a better approach to platform development than the dominant paradigm, in which a dedicated organizational unit develops the platform for the products and projects based on it. We propose to test this hypothesis using multiple-case case study research with three organizations. For this to be possible, we first need to solve the transfer pricing problem of inner source as well as develop a productivity measure to compare the traditional dedicated organization approach with the inner source approach.
