今年度の研究は、次の2点に重点をおいて行った。1.ほぼ全土的に展開した前方後円墳を主軸とする古墳群からは様々な集団動態を窺い知ることができるものの、その認識をさらに深化するには、多様な築成状況、特に個々の古墳の内容と分布状況を連動的に把握する必要がある。そこで、まず盆地や狭隘な谷間、また前面に海が広がる沖積平野など、前方後円墳時代においても空間認識が現在と大きく異なることはなかったと推察され、かつ、できるだけ多くの古墳の内容を知りうる地域を選んで現地踏査を行い、基本的な認識の整理を試みた。その際には、沖積平野の広がりと古墳との位置関係、微高地や自然堤防の状況、中小河川の旧流路の推定、低地からの古墳の可視領域および古墳相互の可視関係などに留意した。これらの要素は、領域を措定して古墳の分布状況を指数化したり、地域毎に比較検討を行う上で重要な認識をもたらすと予測される所与の考察条件とみなせる。2.分布状況の指数化を目指す上で重要なのは対象空間範囲の措定であるため、全面的な発堀調査が行われ居住領域が明瞭になった環濠集落遺跡を対象にして、住居址の分布状況を指数化する方法を検討した。分布状況を客観的に捉えるために、グラフィック・デジタイザー(コードレスマイタブレット)とパーソナル・コンピューターを用いてデータ化を行った。

This year's research is focused on two points. 1. Indexing of distribution status is important in determining the scope of object space. Comprehensive surveys can provide a clear understanding of the residential field, and methods for indexing the distribution of residential addresses are discussed.
