中道は、ワオキツネザルを対象にアカンボウの出生・成長・発達に伴って生じる母子関係の変化と集団成員間の優劣関係を調査した。特に死亡した新生児への反応をつぶさに観察し、100メートル以上離れた所から死体の場所へ戻れるなど、母性の豊かさと高い空間認知・記憶能力、集団成員間の高い社会的認知能力を明らかにした。正高は、ワオキツネザルの二種類の音声について録音・分析し、音声の周波数とか時間ではなくて、振幅などに依拠して音声識別の手かがりとしていることを明らかにした。小田は、音声コミュニケーションの中の警戒声の機能や特徴について調査した。ワオキツネザルやベロ-シファカには、地上の捕食者と空中の捕食者に対応する二種類の警戒声があり、ベロ-シファカの二種類の警戒声を使ってプレイバック実験をおこなった。その結果、ワオキツネザルは自種の警戒声を聞き分けるのと同程度に、別種であるベロ-シファカの警戒声も聞き分けて逃避反応をおこすことが明らかになり、ワオキツネザルは高い可塑性をもった音声識別能力を有していることがわかった。現地参加のラコトティアナ・リスは、ワオキツネザルT1群を対象に、親和的行動や敵対的行動の回数をはかり、個体間でとり行われる社会関係を調べた。2才の雄は雌の集まりに加わっていることが多いが、3才になるとオスと社会関係をもつことが多くなることを明らかにした。小山は、ワオキツネザル5群とそれらの隣接群4群の動態を調査した。群れの分裂によって生じた新しい群れが徐々になわばりを拡大してゆく結果、既存の群れのなわばりが浸食され縮小するのが観察された。群れのなわばりの大きさは、構成員の数や歴史性だけでなく、構成員間の結束度、パトロールの頻度、隣接群への攻撃性の程度など、多くの要因が関与しており、群れサイズとともになわばりもほぼ一定の大きさに保たれるような社会構造をもつことが明らかになった。
