痴呆老人の介護はその異常精神症状ゆえに介護する者に苛酷な負担を強いるが、痴呆老人に対する介護者の態度を共感的なものに改善することによってそのような精神症状を軽減させうることが経験的に知られている。しかしながら、この共感的態度は単なる講義では習得できるものではなく、心理学的技法を用いた集中的な訓練が必要である。そこで本研究では、痴呆老人に対する介護態度の変容を目指して、心理学的介入(集中研修)を行い、その介入の有効性を検討した。対象は、保健婦養成学校の学生30名。これらの学生に対して、1)講義、2)感受性訓練、3)感情反射訓練、4)ロールプレイ、から成る2泊3日の合宿研修を行い、この研修の開始前と開始後に「略画テスト」を実施して痴呆老人に対する介護態度の変化を検討した。この「略画テスト」は、介護に当たる者に困惑や欲求不満を生じさせる老人介護の10場面から成る一種の投影法であり、被評価者の本音が出やすいという利点がある。その結果、介入の前後で対象者の介護態度に大きな変化が見られた。即ち、この研修の終了後には、ほとんどすべての対象者において、老人の言動を肯定的、共感的に受け止めることが増加し、逆に否定や叱責といった拒否的態度が減少した。この結果は、今回の介入が痴呆老人に対する介護態度の変容に有効であることを示すものである。しかしながら、態度を測定したのは研修の直後であり、果してそこで習得した共感的態度がどの程度継続性のあるものなのかは不明である。また、実際の介護場面でこのような態度が示せるのかどうかを検討することも今後の課題である。
