本研究の目的は、自由時間活動を家計支出の側面からとらえた「自由時間活動関連消費」に関する計量分析を行い、その規定要因を明らかにすることである。従来、自由時間活動に関連する消費としては教養娯楽費のみを対象とすることが多かったが、本研究では実態をより詳細に把握するため、いわゆる「自由時間活動関連財・サービス」(『国民生活白書』に依拠)の各項目を対象とし、所得、価格の経済的要因とともに、近年の国民のライフスタイルの変化を示すと考えられるいくつかの社会的要因を取り入れた動学モデルを用いて分析を行った。計測結果及び考察は以下のとおりである。自由時間活動関連財・サービスの多くは所得弾力性が大きく、所得水準の上昇に伴って購入量が増加してきた。社会的要因では、自由時間の代理変数として、労働時間、休日日数等を用いて計測をおこなったが、正の効果があった項目は少なく、本計測結果からはこれまでの自由時間活動関連財・サービスの購入量の増加に単なる自由時間の増加が影響していたとはいいがたい。また、主婦の就業率は自由時間活動関連財において正の効果を示した。20歳代人口比率は多くの項目で有意でなかった。60歳以上人口比率は多くの項目では有意であった。従来、高齢者はあまり活動的でないと考えられてきたが、この結果から浮かび上がってくるのは積極的に活動する高齢者像である。これまでの自由時間活動関連財・サービスの購入量は、社会的要因の中では高齢化の進展に伴って増加してきたものが多いことが分かった。今後、高齢化がより進展して行くのは確実であり、これに伴い、自由時間活動関連財・サービスの購入量が一層増加していくことが予想される。
