1、分散システム上のオブジェクト配置に関し、過去の文献から既知の集中的および分散的アルゴリズムを調査し、それぞれの特徴、優劣を比較した。大規模分散システムにおいては集中的管理方式には性能上および信頼性上の限界があるため、各ノードの自律的動作に基づく分散型アルゴリズムが必須である。この場合ノード間の通信コストと、大域的情報の不足による性能低下のトレードオフが重要である。また独立に動作するノード間の整合性を保つことは大きな問題となる。2、上記の知見を基礎として、性能改善のためのいくつかの改良アルゴリズムを設計した。これには、コピー・オン・ライト方式に基づくファイルの分割レプリケーション、負荷情報を二値に限定することに加え過去の履歴を有効利用することによりメッセージ交換頻度を削減した入札方式によるプロセス移送アルゴリズムが含まれる。3、分散システムのシミュレータを作成し、この上で2で考案されたアルゴリズムをシミュレートし評価を行なった。プロセス移送を行なう際の情報交換のためのノード間通信コストが移送に与える影響を評価するため、バス型ネットワークのノード間通信のパケット単位でのシミュレーションを行なった。その結果、2で考案されたアルゴリズムのうちのいくつかについて、従来の方式をしのぐ高い性能を持つことが示されたが、さらなる改良、さらに現実的な条件の下での性能評価および実装に向けての研究を続行中である。
