東京都A区内の高層集合住宅(8、14、23階建10棟)に居住する65歳以上の高齢者90名、および東京都B区内の独立一般住宅に居住する65歳以上の高齢者140名を対象として、調査が実施された。高層住宅居住者からは53名(59%)、独立一般住宅群からは75名(54%)の有効解答を得た。居住年数は高層住宅群では全員が10年以下であったのに対して、独立一般住宅群は30年以上がほぼ半数を占めていた。しかし、男女比、平均年齢、仕事の有無に関しては両群で違いは見られなかった。居住環境別にみた機能的健康度、生活満足度、自覚的身体症状では、身体的自立度および知的能動性に関しては両地域に差は見られなかったが、手段的自立および社会的役割では独立一般住宅群の方が有意に高かった。また、生活満足度も独立一般住宅群の方が有意に高くなっていた。一方、自覚的身体症状については、高層集合住宅群に多くみられ、統計的にも有意であった。社会的ネットワークおよび社会的支援に関しては、高層集合住宅群は、独立一般住宅群と比べて、狭く、限定される傾向がみられた。本調査の結果、高層住宅に居住する高齢者は、地域の独立一般住宅に居住する高齢者に比べて、機能的健康度、生活満足度、心身の健康度が低いこと、社会関係の狭いことなどが示唆された。本研究は限られたサンプルに対する調査であるが、居住環境の差異が健康に及ぼす影響について知見が得られた。今度、より多くのサンプルを用いて、居住環境と健康の関連に関して、どのような要因が重要であるのかを詳細に検討することが必要である。
