秋田大学側の第三紀層よりなる手形山の斜面を利用して地震動増幅の地形効果を観測する為に,勝島製作所製の地震計(PK-110,固有周期1秒,上下動1成分,水平動2成分)を全面的に修理・検定,ホールシア-ス製の地震計(HS-10,固有周期1秒,上下動1成分,水平動2成分)を整備した.併せてデータ収集用のケーブル(8チャンネル),大型バッテリ-,ラック,工具,電子部品を購入し,検定用ブリッジやコネクターボックスを自主製作して地震計測装置を組み上げた.記録用のデジタルレコーダー(TEAC社製,DR-F1)が最大8チャンネルなので,観測点は三成分2点とし別にトリガー用にGeo-space社製の上下動成分を使用した.一点(HS-10)は手形山斜面の上端にある山林の中に,もう一点は斜面下端にあたる秋田大学鉱山学部付属鉱業博物館入口付近に設置した.平成5年夏は釧路市における合同微動観測に参加した関係上,これらの地震計の設置作業は9月に行った.従って観測の開始は9月下旬であった.当初は片一方をレファレス点とし,もう一方を移動観測点として斜面上各点で観測するつもりであったが,次の理由で移動は断念した.それは,担っている近地の小地震の発生頻度が低い為思ったほどの数の地震記録が得られない事である.これに加えて,低気圧通過時等で海が荒れている時は微動レベルが高くなり小振幅の地震は観測が難しくなる.結局年末までに記録した近地の小地震は4個程度である.ちなみに,北海道南西部沖地震の余震や三陸沖での中規模な地震は数多く記録されている.これらの記録から,以下の事が推定される.即ち住宅地の中の自然斜面としては割と急な手形山斜面であるが地形効果でのSH波による上下動を顕著に示すには傾斜がゆるい.逆に言えば,通常の自然斜面ではその様な現象は被害を起こすほどの効果を持たない.ただ,これは一つの傾斜についての事例からの推定なので,今後も色々な条件の斜面・地形での応答効果を観測・理論計算の両面から明らかにしてゆく努力は続けるべきである.
