血管結紮前の家兎薄筋のmicroangiographyでは、近位側、遠位側血管ともに細い吻合血管によって交通している事が確認された。遠位側血管結紮後の近位側血管の造影所見では1週、3週、6週と時間の経過とともに吻合血清はその径が増し、また近位側血管の血流支配領域が遠位側に延長することが確認できた。以上の経時的造影所見より、遠位側血管結後6週頃に筋弁移植をすれば、遠位端まで十分な血流が得られると考えられた。そこで、遠位側血管結紮6週後の家兎薄筋を用いて肛門機能再建術を施行した。計39羽の家兎につき施行し、すべての家兎を平均すると4.6±9.3週の間、10Hzの持続電気刺激による筋収縮の持続が観察された。また手術死亡を除き、1週以上機能を維持し得た家兎16羽を選択すると、10.1±11.6週の間、筋収縮の持続が観察され、薄筋の血流障害による筋遠位端壊死は1羽も認めなかった。しかしながら、家兎の肛門内圧は時間の経過と共に徐々に低下した。家兎の体力の低下、寿命などにより避けられない問題点もあるが、今回行った刺激方法は、刺激装置の条件などにより一定の強度の電気刺激を与えており、過剰な電気刺激を与えていると考えられ、有効な肛門内圧を維持できる必要最低限の電気刺激を与える装置を改良すれば、より長期間にわたって再建肛門の有効内圧を維持することが可能になると考えられた。
