本年度はとりわけ1920年代のドイツおよびフランスの音楽雑誌の調査に研究の重心を置いた。その結果、以下の四点を明らかにすることが出来た。1.ドイツでは新古典主義の音楽は、ロマン派およびその帰結としての表現主義の音楽への反動であった。意外なことに、後世から見るのとは逆であるが、当時は新古典主義こそが“流行の最先端"の音楽とこれ、シェーンベルワラの表現主義は“時代遅れ"と考えられていた。2.フランスの新古典主義はシュールレアリズム運動およびイタリアの未来主義と密接な関連を持っていた。このことは特に、いわゆるフランス六人組(ミヨー、プーランクら)にあてはまる。この主題についてはこれまでほとんど研究が行われておらず、さらなる調査の必要があると考えられる。3.新古典主義の音楽の潮流は1920年代において、音楽演奏のパラダイム転換を引きおこした。即ちフルトヴェングラーに代表される十九世紀的な“ロマンティックな"スタイルから、トスカニーニやシェルヘンを頭領とする“乾いた"即物的な演奏法である。後者は一般に“新即物主義"と形容されるもので、テンポの過剰なゆれや奏者の感情移入を避けた端正で正確な演奏を理想とする。新古典主義の音楽が同時代の演奏スタイルにおよぼしたこの影響は、今後の重要な研究課題である。
