(1)『19世紀英国議会報告書集』(通称ブルーブックス)中の南部アフリカを対象とした報告書・電文・書簡等を、1899年からの南アフリカ戦争の前史としてのメルクマ-ルとなる1895年のジェイムソン侵入事件からの期間を中心に分類・整理を行った。この中において、イギリス帝国政府の南アフリカ現地出先機関の情勢判断と本国政府の思惑とには、微妙な認識の差があるのではないかという仮説を実証すべき手掛りを見い出すことを念頭において体系的な分析を試みた。(2)収集された『報告書集』中の各特別委員会の報告書等について、目録作成のためのデーター化を現在進めており、完成次第、関連研究進展のために供与することを試みたい。(3)この『報告書』以外の史料、例えばイギリス帝国下院議事録等の史料との照合を試みることと、関連する稀少史料の収集のため、京都大学、東北大学等の図書館等にて、鋭意史料の収集を試みた。(4)また、最新の研究成果を本研究課題にとり入れるために、内外の関連図書を収集して、本研究成果の位置づけを明確化するよう努めた。
