知的画像伝送におけるデータ獲得手法を確立した。完全な手話の認識までには至らなかったが、その前段階である人物像の背景との自動分離と、知的通信のために必要となる「共有知識」の自動生成手法を示すことができた。従来、手話の認識のためには、特殊なデータグローブ等を着用し、関節角度を求める必要であったが、本研究によって、画像から直接手話認識をおこなうための手掛かりが得られた。本手法は、手話の動画像に対し、メディアンフィルターを施すことにより、背景情報および人物像の分離を行い、人物のテクスチャデータを抽出するものであり、知的通信のための共有知識が自動的に得られることが大きな特徴である。また、得られた背景画像と特定フレームとの差分をとることにより、動物体を容易に抽出することができる。本手法は、処理が簡単なことから、将来は、実時間における高速処理が可能になるものと思われる。知的画像伝送は、これまで、共有知識と意味情報を分離するという作業が必要であり、その点において、実用化が困難であったが、本研究により、手話画像の知的伝送において、共有知識の自動生成が可能であり、実用化へ一歩近づいたといえる。また、現在、手話通訳者が少ないため、手話通訳者に過度の負担がかかり、頸肩腕障害などの問題が生じているが、本研究を応用することにより、それらの問題の解決の一助となるものと思われる。今後は、本手法の実時間への応用、そして、本手法を用いた手話認識へと、研究を進めていく予定である。また、同時に、手話の翻訳・通信・記録等の技術を利用して、障害者への情報保障への補助手段としての評価も行っていく予定である。
