The research and developments for data processing in the large hadron collider experiment has been carried out jointly with various collaborators at CERN in the following three area1.Data acquisition and real time data processingEvent data fragments scattered in handreds or a thousand buffer-modules of the detector front-end must be transmitted to a processor for the real time processing.A mechanism to gather the data fragments is necessary ; called as event builder.The total data rate, more than 100 MB/sec, requires the parallel transfer to many processors.KEK has constructed model system of the event builder by "Global traffic control system" which transfer the data fragments through globally synchronized switching system of serial data link.The performance was measured and analyzed the behavior of the system using system simulation technique.CERN group has tested a commercial ATM switch system which is "Self routing system".We worked together to measure the performance at CERN and a … More nalized the result.These results has been presented in the workshop and symposiums.2.Management and access of large volume dataLarge volume data strorage and its access have been studied in the model system of a tape robotics system.Trial implementation of CORBA standard protocol has been tested for data access in the robot system.The object oriented database management system is being studied separately.3.Development of large scale program library based on object-oriented techniqueGEANT is a standard detector simulation program for high energy physics experiments.KEK and GERN group have worked jointly to rebuild this large FORTRAN program with object-oriented program by redefining the specification of the program.The design and analysis of the program has been done following object-oriented design technique.The design specification was completed with iteration process by inquiring world wide GEANT user community.Upon completion of the design, the programming has started to evaluate the performance o the C++ in comparison with the traditional FORTRAN code.The result showed the C++ program is superior to the FORTRAN in the real application.
