项目摘要

女性の理系分野への進出を拡大するための条件を探ることを目的に、94年度までに実施した(1)理系・文系の女子学生・男子学生調査及び(2)20〜70代の理系出身女性の事例研究の結果の分析を行うとともに、新たに(3)大学の理系教員20人へのインタビュー調査の実施・分析を行い、報告書にまとめた。各調査の主な知見は次のとおりである。(1)男女とも理系のほうが文系より早く進路を決めた人が多い。理系の女子は、両親が高学歴で、また専攻分野の決定に身近な人の影響を最も受けている。一方、男子はそうした条件がなくても理系に進学しており、身近な人の影響も女子ほど受けていない。専攻分野の特徴(必要な能力/時間的制約/就職との関係など)については、理系と文系の違いは比較的男女共通しているが、理系の中で男子より女子のほうが感じているのが、仕事の関係でのメリット、時間・体力面での厳しさなどである。(2)理系選択への中・高校時代の先生の影響は多くの女性があげており、家族の影響は40代以上よりも20〜30代で強い。20代は職種も多様で男女差別はあまり感じていないが、30代になると仕事内容などに男女格差を感じ、30代後半は転職者が多い。60代以上はすべて教員である。科学技術分野に女性を増やすためのさまざまな提言も得られた。(3)専攻分野と性別の関係についての教員の基本的な認識は、(1)向き不向きは男女差より個人差が大きい、(2)各分野で男女双方の視点を生かすことが大切、(3)男女ともに理系・文系両方の視点が重要、である。しかし就職は女性に不利で、また理系分野への女性の進出については、女性・男性教員で姿勢に違いがある。理系女性のロールモデルとなりうる女性教員自身のキャリア形成においても男性より不利な面があり、また男性教員は男女学生への指導にも潜在的な違いのあることがうかがわれた。
