Development of Medical Interview Satisfaction Scale in Japanese Edition

The Medical Interview Satisfaction Scale (MISS) was developed as a scale to measure patient satiafaction with an encouner with a physician or other primary care provider by M.H.Wolf et al in 1978. The purpoe of this study is to verify whether MISS can be applied in Japan and can be used as a tool for evaluating health care services.We translated MISS from English into Japanese and made a questionnaire for MISS in Japanese edition. Using it, we surveyed 756 patients who visited 3 hospitals in Saitama Prefecture.As for the reliability of MISS in Japanese version, we investigated the internal consistency by calculating Cronbach's coefficient alpha. The overall coefficient alpha of the score is 0.95, and it is considered that MISS is reliable enough. As for the validity of MISS,we investigated the concurrent validity by using the scale of the overall patient satisfaction as a criterion. All of the coefficients between each MISS scores and that are over 0.65, and it is considered that MISS is valid enough.We investigated the differences of satisfaction between sex, age, physician, and hospital by using the analysis of variance (ANOVA), but there is no difference between sex, physician, and hospital.In conclusion, it is suggested that MISS can be applied in Japan. However, in order to use MISS as a tool for evaluating health care services it is necessary to verify more.
