项目摘要

本年度は、昨年度までの研究成果、および蓄積した資料にもとづいて、保立道久著『平安王朝』(岩波書店、1996年)の問題点を指摘、それを批判するという方法をとった。保立著書は、一般向けの啓豪書の体裁を有し、かなり話題となった著作であるが、本研究の成果によって、細部にいたるまで批判が可能となる。あえて、このような啓蒙書を検討の対象とすることは、現在の専門的な学問研究が、それのみによって成り立つのではなく、一般社会との接点をもとめていく、一般読者層との関係を強化していくという点で、おおきな意義を有するものと考えるからである。主要な成果は次の通りである。1、摂関政治の位置づけについて、そのミウチ政治の理解が根本的に問題であることが、明らかとなった。2、朝廷の東北支配の問題についても、清和源氏の位置づけなどの点で、疑問点が多い。この点については、東北地方の多賀城や胆沢城、あるいは頼朝の奥州出兵関係遺跡などの、現地調査も行って検証した。3、院政の成立をめぐっても、摂関家との関係が無視できないことは、明瞭に論証可能であるが、その点についても、問題点が多い。本研究においては、古代から中世における朝廷儀式の連続性と、その変遷を検討したが、その点でも「平安王朝」という形で、平安遷都と鎌倉幕府成立を画期とする王朝政治研究は、根本的な再検討をせまられることが、明確になったと考える。朝廷研究においては、律令制成立期から鎌倉末期までの一定の連続性を前提としなければならないことが、明らかとなった。
