Recently, development of molecular mashine, acting in a scale of molecular assembly, have started based on usage of probe microsocpy. In this project, we tried to orient uniaxially dipole moments in a polyoxymethylene chain by applying electric field in order to develop a novel actuator (molecular piston).A benzene solution of polyoxymethylene was spread on water surface to prepare the polyoxymethylene monolayr. The monolayr was prepared by changing the concentration of spread solution, the surface pressure, the compression speed and the subphase temperature. The monolayr was transfeercl onto mica substrate to observe the morphology by an atomic force microscope. The morphologically homogeneous polyoxymethylene monolayr was prepared by the compression speed of 0.8 mm/s the surface pressure of 20 mN/m and at the subphase temperature of 293 K by using the solution with the concentration of 10^3 M.An isolated polyoxymethylene chain was obtained by scanning at stronger applied force. The expansion and contraction behaviors of polyoxymethylene chain will be investigated by applying electric field between cantilever and the substrate.
