本研究では、競泳のスタート動作を、水上及び水中から4台のビデオ撮影により運動学的な分析を行い、10m到達時間と種々の運動学的要因との関係を調べた。特に、水中局面と到達時間の関係に重点を置き、速いスタートの要因を考察した。結果は以下の通りである。1.到達時間と水中局面(大転子入水から10mまで、グライド局面とストローク局面からなる)時間は有意な相関関係にあり、水中局面の重要性は高いと考えられた。2.到達時間の遅い選手は、グライド局面での速度低下が大きく、ストロークを開始することにより泳速度を再び上昇させているという現象が見られた。3.グライド局面では泳速度の低下が見られるが、グライド終了時の速度をその選手の泳速度に一致させるもしくは近づける技術が必要であると考えられた。本研究では、意識的にグライド距離を長くしたり、短くしたりという試技も行ったが、グライド距離にかかわらず、グライド終了時の速度が低下し過ぎていないということが、到達時間に影響していると考えられた。4.グライド局面での泳速度の低下は、下肢が下に落ち抵抗力が増すことが原因であると考えられ、これは速く浮き上がろうとする動作によって引き起こされる。グライド局面ではむしろ身体を一度水平にすることが必要で、これには手部の角度の調節、キックの使用などが効果的と推測される。5.グライド距離を意識的に変えた方が、到達時間が速くなる選手も見られ、スタートからストローク開始までをトータルでシミュレーションできれば、個々の飛び出し速度、角度に応じた、最適な軌跡を見つける事ができるものと予想され、今後の研究課題になると思われる。
