项目摘要

オランダ東インド会社の資料を調べることにより、17世紀の東方アジアにおける海外貿易の実体を把握することが可能である。いままでの、日本史、中国史、東南アジア史、ヨーロッパ史という縦割りの研究ではなく、相互関係のありかたが解明できる。今回は、トンキンを中心とする絹貿易に焦点をあてた。17世紀における絹貿易は、単に、日本と中国を結ぶでけの貿易ではない。中国の絹は、中国人商人だけではなく、日本人、オランダ人などのヨーロッパ人により取り引きされ、その代金として、日本の銀が支払われた。この銀は、中国だけではなく、東南アジア各地においても、貨幣として使用され、また、ヨーロッパにおいても重要な役割を果している。17世紀半ばに、中国の政情が不安になると、中国の絹輸出は減った。しかし、日本は、江戸時代の安定期に入り、以前より多くの生糸を求めていた。その状況に置いて、中国生糸に代わるものが求められ、その一つがトンキン生糸であった。この生糸貿易は、基本的に、中国商人によって取り仕切られている。今までの研究はオランダ人の貿易状況に焦点が当てられてきたきらいがあるが、調べてみると、オランダ人以上に、鄭芝龍・鄭成功に取り仕切られている中国人の役割が大きい。オランダ資料を調べてみると、中国人の財力は、オランダ人のよりも大きく、中国人の介入によって、オランダ人の取り引きがうまくいかなった記述がでてくることからも、トンキンにおける中国商人の影響力の大きさが知られる。さらに、トンキンの生糸貿易には、中国商人だけではなく、トンキン王国の高官達(主に宦官)が、恣意的に貿易を取り仕切っていることもわかってきた。まだ、不確かではあるが、この宦官と中国商人が、深く結びついているのではないかという推測をしている。
