研究課題遂行の一環として東京大学総合研究資料館に保管されている同大イラン・イラク遺跡調査団(団長江上波夫)が1965年に発掘調査したテル・サラサート5号丘出土のニネヴェ5式土器の研究調査を行った。その結果,彩文土器:514点,刻文土器:336点,灰色土器:1164点が存在することを確認し,これらの土器の整理分析を主に行った。素文の中・大型土器,粗製土器は土器全体の約9割を閉める膨大な量(総量約7トン)が存在するため,これらについての整理は未だ完了していない。これまでの調査から以下の注目すべき新事実が明らかになった。既刊の報告書では出土土器は全て同一時期に伴ったものと見做されていたが,上層と下層から出土した灰色・刻文土器群の形式には歴然とした差異が認められ,明らかに時期差を示していることが判明した。特に上層から出土した土器群は研究代表者が設定した「初期削文期」に伴うことが実証できた。さらに未公表資料の中には公表された彩文・刻文土器とは異なる新しい様式のものが数多く認められた。欧米の研究者はこの遺跡の土器群を一部の公表された資料のみから判断し,ニネヴェ5期の前期に編年づけているが,上記の事実から実際にはそれよりも降る時期に位置づけられることが明らかになった。このように従来定説化されていたテル・サラサートのニネヴェ5期の編年を覆した点は研究成果として特筆しておきたい。今後はこの資料を更に多方面から統計的に解析し,編年,土器の用途,生産体系,建物の機能,さらにはこの時期の社会構造の解明を目指している。
