9年度は対象のカテゴリー分類への形態的類似性の促進と妨害の効果を中心に研究を行った。Snodgrassらの画像を用い,後行呈示の絵の形態的特徴の量(完全・不完全)と質(先行呈示項目との形態的特徴の類似性高・低)がカテゴリー分類時間に及ぼす効果を,対応する単語の分類時間と比較した。実験はすべて被験者内要因で行い,被験者は先行呈示の絵に対して後行の絵,先行呈示の単語に対して後行の単語が,同一のカテゴリーに属するかどうかの判断をはい-いいえで行った。その結果,同判断・異判断共に,形態的特徴の量の主効果が認められ,完全な絵が不完全な絵よりも反応が速かった。形態的特徴の類似性の主効果については,同判断では認められず,類似性高・低条件間で差はなかった。しかし,異判断では,類似性の低い絵は類似性の高い絵より反応が速いという結果となった。単語では同・異判断とも条件による差は見られなかった。これらの結果は,形態的特徴の量と類似性(質)がカテゴリー分類という意味処理に影響を及ぼすことを示している。但し,類似性は,異なるカテゴリーであるという判断にのみ手がかりとして用いられていた。カテゴリー判断は,同じカテゴリーであるという判断傾向を持っており,形態が類似していない場合に異判断を行うという処理の流れが示唆される。対象判断を行うためには,同一対象の複数線画を用意する必要がある。9年度では,一つの対象に対して複数の線画の作成まで行うことができた。線画の選択・決定,実験について準備中である。また,線画の意味表象構造についての調査を実施し,眼球運動による形態的特徴の役割を探るため,予備実験を行った。
