a. Research of the examples of persuasion and what it meant from Greek and Latin texts. I examined patristic sources like Tertullian, Cyprian, Lactantius and Eusebius.b. I studied the relations between early Christians and societies, namely cities, in the Roman Empire. I found that Christians lived as citizens in the cities. They shared the same lifestyle and cultural life as pagan citizens.c. I found that bishops of the churches studied Greek and Latin literature and philosophy and acted as philosophers or rhetoricians. They tried to persuade pagan jurists, officials, even emperors.d. Many books, namely studies on Greek Latin texts about Roman society and backnumbers of same periodicals on ancient Church history. I met and discussed on early Christianity and Roman society with P.Brown of Princeton in US. And B.Levick of Oxford.e. I published 4 articles on this theme listed on next page. I offered and will offer two reports on this theme at the meetings of Society of Japanese Studies on Christianity and Society of Studies on European and American history of Japan.
