The following three meetings were held to discuss mission and strategy of petrology for the next century1. December, 1996 : Kemikawa symposium at Chiba. Forty papers were presented and some of them were published in special issue of "Journal of Geography, 1997".2. November, 1997 : Abukuma symposium at Takahagi and field excursion in the Abukuma Plateau. Forty-two papers were presented at this symposium.3. November, 1998 : Kurashiki symposium at Kurashiki. Fifty-four papers were presented and some of them will be published in special issue of "Journal of Geography, 1999".
