(1) The purpose of this research project is to describe the political changes in Kofun Period Japan, based upon the analyses of shift in regional leadership.(2) Shifts in regional leadership have been discussed by the analyses of chiefly tomb clusters in the following regions : Tsukushi, Kibi, Izumo, Kinai, Owari, Kenu.(3) Field work has been carried out in Southwestern Kyoto, including excavations of 6 century burial mounds, artifact analyses of the tombs and general survey.(4) Chronological studies of burial mounds, their funeral facilities and grave goods have successfully been done, that have helped clarify some important characteristics in the succession of regional authorities.

(1)本研究的目的是通过对地方领导权转移的分析，来描述古坟时代日本的政治变化。(2)通过对以下地区主要墓葬群的分析，讨论了地区领导地位的变化：筑紫、吉备、出云、鬼井、尾张、基努。(3)在京都西南部进行了实地考察，包括对6个世纪土丘的发掘、墓葬的人工制品分析和一般调查。(4)对土丘、丧葬设施和随葬品的年代学研究已经成功地完成，这有助于澄清地方政权继承的一些重要特征。
