平成9年度において、私は研究計画書に書いた様に平成8年度に収集した基本史料の分析にとりかかった。具体的には、1898年から1906年までのバイエルン邦議会議事録、バイエルン社会民主党の邦党大会議事録および機関紙Munchener Post、バイエルン中央党の機関紙Bayerischer Kurierおよび邦議会議員団会議録の分析を行った。これらの史料のうち、バイエルン社会民主党の邦党大会議事録の分析とカード化は終わり、その後バイエルン邦議会議事録とMunchener Postの分析にとりかかった。しかし、これらの史料の量的ボリュームに比して時間的余裕がないのに加えて、新しい研究書や論文に目を通すのにも時間を取られ、社会民主党関係史料の分析に関しては当初の計画の半分も進まなかった。また、バイエルン社会民主党の同盟相手であるバイエルン中央党関係の史料はほとんど手付かずのままである。このような研究の進展状況ではあるが、分析を行った史料内容と新しい研究書・論文から以下のことが新しい成果として指摘できる。(1)バイエルン社会民主党とバイエルン中央党の間に選挙同盟が結ばれる1899年のバイエルン邦議会選挙以前においても、下部レベルで両党の接触は始まっていた。しかし、1899年までは両党の間の溝は、本質的には埋まっていない。(2)1899年の選挙同盟に際しては、両党の党員の間にかなりの反対意見が存在した。(3)1899-1906年の同盟関係の背後には、バイエルン社会民主党のポピュリスト的路線に共鳴する大衆政党路線志向の新しいバイエルン中央党の指導者の台頭があった。(4)両党とも同盟関係を、邦議会選挙法改正のための合目的戦略と冷静に位置付ける。(5)両党の指導者に意識の基底には「反プロイセン」というバイエルンの伝統的思考様式が存在した。
