交付申請書に当該研究の目的として挙げた、代数的独立性についての問題及び代数的独立度についての問題に関して、前者についてはPhilippon氏によって、後者についてはAmoroso氏によって、それぞれ非常に優れた結果が得られたことを、1996年春の時点で知った。このことによって、当初の計画に沿って研究を進めることが不可能になってしまった。そこで、「代数的独立性と代数的独立度についての研究」の枠内で、当初の計画にはなかった研究を行った。研究成果は次の三つにまとめられる。第一は、代数的関数方程式を満たすマーラー関数の零位数評価についての結果である。これを使うと、Topfer氏が最近得た超越測度についての結果を、同氏が扱ったマーラー関数のクラスよりも広い範囲のマーラー関数に対して一般化できる。第二は、鹿児島大学の桂田昌紀氏との共同研究の成果で、一般化されたディリクレ級数たちの代数的独立性についての結果である。特別な場合として、フルピッツのゼータ関数は複素数体上のいかなる代数的微分方程式をも満たさないことが示された。これについては、第5回超越数論研究集会(於学習院大学、1996年12月)で発表した。第三は、楕円モジュラー関数j(τ)に関係した関数たちの代数的独立性についての結果である。特別な場合として、αを零以外の任意の複素数、β、γを上半平面に属する複素数か正の実数かのどちらかでβ/γが有理数ではないものとするとき、三つの関数exp(ατ)、j(βτ)、j(γτ)は複素数体上代数的独立であることが示された。以上のうち、第一のものについては既にプレプリントが出来ており、第二・第三のものについては現在論文を執筆中である。いずれについても、近いうちに発表の予定である。
