The Mineralogical Inorganic Crystal Database (MINC) is a database used in the computer center of the University of Tokyo. It contains names, chemical formulae, chemical compositions (wt %), bibliographies, places, meteorite names, lunar sample numbers, crystal data, crystal structure data, crystal structure image data of solid earth planetary materials including meteorites and lunar minerals.EPMA data of the minerals in the lunar samples are collected with image data of analyzed points. We have been studying some database programs such as Microsoft Access. We found that it is inconvenient to handle data of variable record length. In addition, we can add image data. We examined the problems and solutions of collecting and recording the image data whose volume is much bigger than the text data. The two dimensional element distribution map by the BEI, EPMA of SEM, is widely used in research. But its volume is too large to be recorded as data in the database. The mineral distribution map makes it easier to understand these two dimensional maps. The mineral distribution map is drawn by the mineral edges and their own colors. These maps can be transferred into the vector map files of Adobe Illustrator, and we can reduce their volumes. We also examined the transfer from bit map file to vector map file, and found that Adobe Streamline is better. To transfer the microscope image, or the BEI of SEM to the mineral distribution map, we found Adobe Streamline is better. The areas, including black and white areas, are painted with the same color gradation by Adobe Photoshop. Those boundaries are traced by Streamline, and the same color areas are painted by one mineral color. Then we get a vector map file. We add chemical composition information to these image files, so our database will be more useful.
