In order to investigate the flow and the mass/heat transfer of solid-fluid mixtures which have relatively large solid particles, we developed a new numerical method for the calculation of the flow and the mass/heat transfer of the solid-fluid mixtures by using the lattice Boltzmann method. Next, we studied the characteristics of the flow and the mass/heat transfer of the solid-fluid mixtures by the computations and the available experimental data. The results of this study are as follows.1. A new numerical method for solid-fluid mixture flows is developed by using the lattice Boltzmann method.2. The calculated results of flows containing cylinder particles between parallel walls agree well with experiments.3. The calculated results of flows containing sphere particles through a duct are compared with experimetns to verify the accuracy of the method.4. The effect of the parameters (the ratio of particle diameter to duct hight, the volume fraction of particles, and the flow speed) on the mixture flow is clarified.5. A new numerical method for mass/heat transfer of solid-fluid mixtures is developed by using the lattice Boltzmann method for binary fluid mixture.6. The mass transfer of the mixture of sphere particles and binary fluid is calculated and compared with experiments to verify the accuracy of the method.7. The effect of the above parameters on mass/heat transfer is clarified.
