In adrenal chromaffin cells, which are regarded as model catecholamine-containing neurons and are useful for studies on the mechanism of stimulus-secretion coupling, secretory stimulation causes an increase in the intracellular free CaィイD12+ィエD1 ([CaィイD12+ィエD1]i) level originating from intracellular pools and extracellular spaces, leading to catecholamine secretion and activation of catecholamine biosynthesis.The effect of exposure to the time-varying strong magnetic field on bradykinin-stimulated mobilization of [CaィイD12+ィエD1]i in adrenal chromaffin cells was examined. It exposed to time-varying magnetic field changing between 0.07 and 1.7 T at an interval of 3 s on transient increase in [CaィイD12+ィエD1]i stimulated by bradykinin in the cells. Addition of bradykinin induced the increase in [CaィイD12+ィエD1]i Within a few minutes. The exposure to the magnetic field perfectly suppressed the increase in [CaィイD12+ィエD1]i in CaィイD12+ィエD1 free medium. The inhibition occurred for 15 min when the maximum magnetic flux density was more than 1.4 T. These results suggest that the exposure inhibits CaィイD12+ィエD1 release from intracellular CaィイD12+ィエD1 stores.Thus, magnetic field may have influence on the mechanism of stimulus-secretion coupling in catecholamine-containing neurons.
