引き続き、三島由紀夫『金閣寺』などの文学作品を調査し、述語隠喩を中心とした用例データベースを作成した。データベースに含まれる情報の核をなすのは隠喩の分類情報である。隠喩はその形式上、単純隠喩と複合隠喩に分けられる。単純隠喩は句隠喩と文隠喩に分かれる。句隠喩は一文の中にベースと喩辞を含むもので、その中でさらに述語隠喩と名詞隠喩に細分される。文隠喩は「猿も木から落ちる」というような文全体が喩辞をなすものである。複合隠喩は一文中に複数の単純隠喩が重ね合わされるものでその例はあまり多くない。隠喩の分類を行った後、述語隠喩の構造分析に着手した。名詞隠喩がその構造上、喩辞と主題と根拠に分解できるのに対して、述語隠喩の場合には喩辞と主題=根拠に二分される。たとえば、「人の心を読む」という述語隠喩は喩辞「読む」とその背後にある主題=根拠「理解する」から成り立っている。述語隠喩の特徴はこれに加えて述語との結びつきの密接な典型的事例がからむことで、「読む」の場合には「本(のように)」がそれにあたる。こうした構造上の違いをふまえて、今後、差異性と類似性とによる名詞隠喩の理論に対応するような述語隠喩の説明理論の構成に取り組む。
