本研究は、英語教育現場が必要とする英語コミュニケーション能力評価のためのオンライン・テストシステムの構築を目標とした。平成11年度に、日本人英語学習者の聴解能力を分析した。平成12年度には、英語コミュニケーション能力テストの教育現場への波及効果に関する調査を行い、1)テストが全国規模になり、継続的に実施されると、指導への影響が強くなり、2)現場のテスト結果に対する切実度がますほど、教師は指導技術改善に積極的に取り組むことが明確になった。全国レベルで実施され、その結果が学習者自身にとって大きな影響を与えうるものとして考えられるテストは、現在の日本では、大学入試センター試験である。オンライン・テストシステムは、必ずしも一斉に実施する必要はないのであるが、平成13年度の研究では、オンラインにはこだわらず、一斉テストが可能な形式の将来の望ましいモデルとして、現実的なコミュニケーション能力テスト・システムの必要条件を追求し、下記の6点を提示した。(1)テスト環境:インターネット接続したコンピュータ等を活用して、公平で不安が軽減されるテスト環境を構築する。(2)問題形式・内容:実際のコミュニケーションを反映し、興味や関心をもって取り組める内容で、かつ文化的なバイアスの無い問題とする。聴解問題の音声には、母語話者のみでなく、非母語話者の音声も含め、国際語としての英語能力を評価する。(3)難易度:基礎的な英語能力(到達度)を確立し、その範囲内での出題とする。(4)配点割合:パフォーマンス・テストの割合は、全体の3割程度とする。(5)問題バンク:適切な問題項目を再利用のため、項目応答理論等を利用して、データベース化する。(6)情報開示:パフォーマンス・テストの問題は、実際に使用された音声等を開示する。上記の条件をふまえて、大学レベル以降での全国的なテスト開発・実施が今後の課題となろう。

The purpose of this study is to construct an English language teaching system that is necessary for English language teaching.
