1、1999年はシュッツ生誕100年にあたり,日本(3月26〜28日)、ドイツ(5月26〜29日)、アメリカ合衆国(10月7〜9日)において、それぞれ「シュッツ生誕100年記念国際シンポジウム」が開催され、研究代表者と研究分担者は日本での会議を主催し、また他のすべての会議にも出席して研究報告を行ない、世界の多くの研究者たちと集中的な意見交換を行なった。2、ドイツでの会議に際して、会場となったコンスタンツ大学に保管されているシュッツの蔵書を調べる機会を与えられた。そこで滞在を延長して、それらの蔵書の「書き込み」の一部を調査し、とりわけ重要なコメントが書き込まれている書物が約100冊あることが判明した。同時に、シュッツの社会理論の展開を明らかにするうえでそれらの「書き込み」を詳細に研究する重要性も痛感した。3、同じくコンスタンツ大学に所蔵されているシュッツの「書簡」に関しては、同大学「シュッツ文庫」の責任者マーチン・エンドレス博士のご厚意により、一括マイクロフィルムとして、研究代表者が統括している「早稲田シュッツ文庫」に寄贈していただいたので、それをすべてハード・コピーしたうえで宛先人・差出人、日付の早い順に整理し、一覧表にした。4、それら書簡類(2,578通)を整理し、研究分担者がそれぞれ分担して順次読み込み、議論していくなかで、とりわけH・ケルゼン、M・ファーバー、E・フィンク、F・ハイエク、F・カウフマン、F・マッハルブ、E・ヴェーゲリンたちとの手紙による議論のさらなる研究の重要性を痛感した。5、本研究を基礎にさらに研究を積み上げていくことによって、近い将来、「限界効用理論」「純粋法学」「現象学」「社会科学方法論」といったテーマを射程に入れながら、シュッツを取り巻く斯界の第一人者たちとの議論の切り結びについて議論する国際会議に向けた準備を進める予定である。
