本研究は、同質的な「国民」像から解放された人々の間で、新たな集合的アイデンティティが形成されていく過程を、ブラジル・リオグランデドスル州における地域主義の復興を事例に考察するものである。今日の州民の集合的アイデンティティは、ブラジル国内だけではなく、世界の政治的、経済的、文化的影響を受けながら形成されるという見方から、まずは昨年度までに収集した先行研究や資料を用いて、権威主義体制崩壊後の国家、ラテンアメリカ社会、世界と州の関係を考察、分析した。本研究の中心に据えている、「国民意識」及び「地域意識」に関する州民の意識調査は、9月に実施した。グローバル化が引き起こす、多国籍企業の第3国への進出という面のみをみても、世界各地は投資や工場の誘致を求めて自地域を特殊化、差異化し、リオグランデドスル州ではメルコスルの発足もあって、メルコスル諸国との地理的な近接性から州の利点や特殊性が強調され(ゼネラル・モーターズの自動車工場の誘致に成功)、ローカル性が活性化されている。そのような状況下で新たな集合的アイデンティティが形成される過程において、州民は非常に身近なところで「地域意識」が問われる機会に接し(メディアでの議論、近年活発化し州政府の援助を受ける伝統主義運動の存在、各種伝統行事への参加機会の増加と容易化、地域文化を考慮した多国籍企業の広告戦略など)、自己のアイデンティティを再帰的に問いかけていることが意識調査の結果、明らかになった。なお、これまでの研究・調査の成果は、拙稿「近年のブラジル・リオグランデドスル州におけるローカル・アイデンティティに対する関心の高まり-ファロウピーリャ・キャンプの模様を中心に-(仮題)」にまとめ、上智大学イベロアメリカ研究所発行の『イベロアメリカ研究』(2003年25巻第1号)に投稿した。現在、査読中である。今後は学会や研究会でも発表する予定である。
