项目摘要

1 日本の青少年の自殺に関していくつかの重要な知見が得られた。2000年度の10-19歳の青少年の自殺は3054件で、青少年の死因のなかで自殺は第一位を占めている。自殺未遂の実態は把握困難であるが、自殺防止策として三つの要因が有効であることを明らかにした。青少年における閉じこもり・薬物使用・自殺願望を定期的にスクリーニングすることである。そして一般に言われている「自殺サイン」は必ずしも信頼できないことを明らかにした。2 日本では「不良行為」とカテゴライズされる飲酒行動はここ数年その増加傾向が止まったが、飲酒に関連する交通事故死は増大傾向にあることが明らかになった。16歳-19歳人口の事故死は成人の約4倍であり、欧米に比べて極めて高い。原因は運転の未熟さに求められることが多いが、実際には飲酒などの逸脱行動に密接に関連していることを明らかにした。3 法規制の強化によって交通事故死を減らすという1970年以降の日本の政策は欧米では見られないほど有効に機能した。この「抑止理論」が日本で機能し、欧米では機能しないのは、日本における「インフォーマルなサンクション・システム」によるものであることを明らかにした。罰則の強化だけではこのような社会制御は成功しない。4 複数の国際会議で、日本における青少年対策としての社会制御の成功例を報告し、欧米の研究者の関心を引きつけた。本研究を契機に国際的な共同研究を発足させた。
