Ecological Risk Analysis of Soil Pollution Using Soil Animals

Studies on analysis of ecological risk to soil animals caused by the soil pollution have shown the following results.1) The European collembolan specie have been used in laboratory toxicity test were reviewed, and the possibilities of the tests with Japanese species were examined. Seven species of Japanese Collembola were considered to be good materials for the test.2) The ways of measuring the body length of young Collembola were examined. The use of HD digital microscope was successful in measuring the body length.3) The first toxicity tests with Japanese Collembola, Folsomia candida, were carried out in laboratory using the artificial soil (OECD). The growth and survival rate decreased in soil higher contaminated with Cu and LAS.4) Effects of glucose on growth of Collembola were investigated. The glucose was added into culture medium with various water contents. The growth was stimulated under high water contents5) Resent studies on analysis of ecological risk to soil animals caused by the soil pollution were reviewed.
