项目摘要

平成15年度は、これまで三年間にわたって行なわれた本研究について、一つの総決算としての学術論文を完成することと、ポーランドのポズナン大学史学科において「文明と時間」という表題のもとに、平成15年10月に英語での十回にわたる講義によって三宅の研究成果をポーランドの学生に伝達することを目標とした。学術論文は「ヨーロッパ史の諸時期における時間意識の様相:学説史に即しての考察」である。同論文では、古代史家モミリアーノの論文「古代の歴史叙述に見られる時間」を詳細に検討し、ヘロドトス、トゥキュディデス、ポリュビオスのいずれにも、循環史観は認めがたいとして、従来の通説に挑戦を試みている事実を確認した。中世ヨーロッパにおける時間意識と歴史観については、社会史の立場から庶民の「心性(マンタリテ)」に即して検証につとめたロシアの歴史学者グレーヴィチの研究に着目した。心性史を標榜するグレーヴィチといえども、アウグスティヌスという傑出した思想家が時間意識と歴史観の転換にはたした決定的な役割を重視せざるを得ず、循環的時間とキリスト教の両立を図ったオリゲネスに加えた彼の批判にも叙述を割いていることを、三宅論文は指摘する。同時にグレーヴィチが部分的に依拠したロシアの東洋学者コンラドが、ポリュビオスと司馬遷をどのように比較しているかに注目する。グレーヴィチを評価するポーランドの中世史家ギエイシュトルが、社会史に即して中世ポーランドの時間意識の多様性、複数性を指摘していることも明らかにした。中世から近代への過渡期については、フランスの社会史家ルゴフの「教会の時間と商人の時間」を論じ、ドイツの社会史家ロッスムに即してテイラー・システムの確立までを概観した。ポーランドでの英語の講義録はいずれ同地で公刊予定であるが、毎回七十人前後の熱心な聴講者に支えられたことを付言しておきたい。
