1)We clarified effectiveness of farm diversification with rural tourism by exploring an economic conceptual framework and extended the domains of rural economics which has looked at only farming production aspects.2)We clarified that rural tourism in Japan is in transition period from what is used to be to what is expected to be as a new activity by farmers complying with recreational needs from urban people.3)We clarified the visitors' profile of prick-your-own fruit farms and found that they had higher academic background were fond of outdoor. activities, which is almost identical result with proceeding studies in Europe.4)We clarified how to develop rural tourism activity taking into account of multifunctionality of agriculture by focusing on one case study and found that promoting product innovation is effective for this purpose.5)We evaluated effects of rural road building in the area of pick-your-own fruit farming and found that rural road has more positive impact for promoting farm diversification than the case of solely farming areas.6)We examined agritourism activity in Umbria, Italy and clarified the evolutionary process of diversification of agritourism.
