概念の内部構造に関する重要な認知心理学的知見に典型性効果がある.これは,ある概念に属するインスタンス(下位概念)が「典型性」にしたがって心的に順序付けられていることを意味している.例えば,ある概念のインスタンスを全て列挙するように求められると,ヒトは典型性の高い順でインスタンスを想起すること,あるインスタンスがある概念に属するかどうかを尋ねられると,ヒトはそのインスタンスの典型性が高いほど短時間で判断できること,などの現象が知られている.本研究の目的はこの典型性効果を神経回路レベルで説明することにあり,昨年度は上記現象を再現する神経回路モデルを提案した.そこでは,インスタンス(パターン)の典型性はその概念(パターン)との相関で表されるものとし,典型的なインスタンスほど概念との相関が強くなるよう前もってコード化されていた.このことは,外界から与えられるインスタンスに典型性が前もって埋め込まれていることを意味しており,この仮定は不自然であろう.インスタンスに内在する生得的な典型性を捕えることが典型性効果の発現の本質ならば,極端な場合,全ての人は同じインスタンスに対して同程度の典型性を抱くことになってしまうだろう.そこで本年度は,インスタンス自身に典型性が内在しているとする代りに,カテゴリを形成するように分布するインスタンスが,異なった確率で出現する学習環境を仮定した.そして,インスタンスを記憶するのと同時にそれらから概念を自動形成する神経回路モデルを提案し,このモデルから典型性効果が発現することを示した.本モデルでは出現確率の高いインスタンスほど高い典型性を持つものとして学習される.高頻度の「リンゴ」と低頻度の「イチジク」を学習ソースとした場合,「リンゴ」寄りの「果物」概念を自動形成し,「果物」の入力により,高い確率で「リンゴ」を,低い確率で「イチジク」を想起する,というようなモデルである.
