前年にひきつづき、17世紀の南モンゴル政治史に関わる実証的研究に従事した。国内では、東京大学東洋文化研究所、東洋文庫などで、当該のテーマの史資料の収集につとめた。研究代表者は、7カ国の研究者を招集し、2003年の9月にモシゴル史に関するアーカイブズの国際シンポジウムをモンゴル・オラーンバータルで組織した。研究分担者は、明朝の兵部の文書を利用して、17世紀前半のリグデン・ハーンの行動に関する発表をおこなった。この国際会議の記録は、東京外国語大のCOEの出版物としてまもなく刊行される予定である。同年7月に、研究分担者は、日本アルタイ学会で17世紀前半の東トゥメトに関する研究発表をおこなった。同年年11月には、日本モンゴル学会秋季大会に参加し、研究分担者は、天理図書館で清代モンゴル史に関するモンゴル語、マンジュ語、漢語の資料の調査をおこなった。2004年の2月に研究分担者は、中国・内モンゴルに出張し、内モンゴル図書館などで、17世紀の南モンゴル史に関わる、モンゴル語、漢語の資料の調査に従事した。同年3月、研究代表者は、台湾に出張し、中央研究院近代史研究所、政治大学、故宮博物院図書館などで清代モンゴル史に関わる資料の調査をおこなった。研究分担者は、年間を通じて、17世紀の南モンゴルの大集団ハラチンの歴史研究をすすめ、準備中の著作のかなの部分を執筆した。
