英文摘要
Recently in Japan the number of people participating in sports has been increasing, probably due to increased heath awareness; and they are also becoming more conscious of possible sports injury. Although concern about injury to the oral area is lower than that to other parts of the body, there are many people who wear a commercially available mouth guard when engaging in sports for which one is appropriate. These things show that availability of custom-made mouth guards doesn't understand sufficiently. In this study, I compared custom-made mouth guards with those on the market with respect to the occlusal condition and gravity fluctuation. The subjects were 20 adults who had never used a mouth guard in some kind of sports. They wore the commercial mouth guard and the custom-made one, each for 3 months; and the changes in occlusal condition and gravity fluctuation just after the start of wearing the mouth guard, after 1 month, and after 3 months were measured. The mouth guard on the market was of the mouth-formed type, and the custom-made one was made by the seat pressure method and had a thickness of 3mm in the part covering the front teeth. As the results, no change in total biting force or contact area was recognized with either guard. With the commercial mouth guard, the distance of gravity fluctuations after use for 1 month was lower than that found just after the start of wearing the guard. In the case of the custom-made mouth guard, the distance of gravity fluctuations after use for 1 month was lower than just after wearing of mouth guard, and a significant difference was recognized.
