本年度は、長州藩に関わる論稿二本と、鳥取藩に関わる研究ノートを成果として発表した。長州藩について言うと、藩祖顕彰を宗教・文化・儀礼にとどまることなく、積極的に政治史に関連させていくという課題を、方法的に堤示できたと考えている。内容的に近世中後期長州藩の藩祖顕彰の過程を明らかにしつつ、長州藩の宝暦改革から天保改革への流れを見通したものである。その結果、幕末維新期までを含めた藩祖顕彰の展開を方法的に明らかにできた。また、長州藩始祖阿保親王の顕彰過程を、近代の天皇陵の問題として考えようと試みたことも大きな成果である。これは、考古学・文献史学双方の研究者が集まっておもに文献史学を中心に執筆したものである。鳥取に関しては、招魂社を取り上げ、鳥取おける戦没者問題を検討した。鳥取藩では、藩祖顕彰というより東照宮との関係が密であり、それゆえ長州藩とは異なる方法的なアプローチが必要な面も多い。本年度は、その手がかりとして近代の招魂祭・招魂社を出発点に据えた。なぜなら、戊辰戦争の戦没者を祀る招魂杜が、東照宮祭祀場所と重なっでくることがわかってきたからである。それゆ近世の東照宮祭祀とともに近代も引き続き事実関係を明らかにしていく必要がある。このように本年度は両藩の祖先顕彰の実態をそれぞれ解明することに取り組んできたが、次年度は、もう少し両藩顕彰事業の事実関係を明らかにしていくとともに、両藩の比較にも取り組んでみたい。
