本研究において、右上がりの供給曲線と右下がりの需要曲線の交点である均衡価格と均衡数量のみが観察されるとき、そして、需要、供給曲線の形状を完全に特定できないとき、観察される均衡価格と均衡数量の変動が、需要サイドと供給サイドのどちらから引き起こされたのかを識別するNonparametricな新しい計量手法を開発した。そしてこの手法を用いて、(1)景気変動の総需要要因と総供給要因の推定と、(2)男女間、学歴間の賃金格差の変動の労働需要要因と労働供給要因を推定した。(1)景気変動要因の推定:これまでの景気変動要因の推定では、(需要、供給)関数形の特定化が必要だが、いろいろな関数形が考えられ、その選択によって推定される要因が異なってしまうという問題が存在した。本研究では、この問題を回避して、品目分類による消費財のパネルデータを用いて、景気変動要因を推定した。その結果、従来言われているような供給要因の重要性だけでなく、需要要因も景気変動に重要であることを示した。(2)男女差、学歴差による賃金格差の変化の要因の推定:既存の賃金格差の変化の要因の推定では、労働需要曲線と労働供給曲線の交点である賃金と労働供給のデータしかないため、労働需要要因と供給要因の識別・推定が完全にはできなかった。本研究では、男女、学歴で分類した賃金と労働供給のパネルデータを使って、男女間、学歴間の賃金格差の変動を引き起こす労働需要要因と労働供給要因を推定した。この結果、これまで指摘されていた労働需要要因の重要性だけでなく、労働供給要因も同様に重要であることが分かった。私は本研究を、論文"Nonparametric Estimation of Supply and Demand Factors with Applications to Labor and Macro Economics"にまとめ、Annual Congress of the European Economic Association(2002年8月、イタリア、ベニス)とEuropean Meetings of Econometric Society(2002年8月、イタリア、ベニス)、および横浜国立大学国際社会科学研究科の主催で開かれた国際コンファレンスNew Development in the Asia Pacific Region : Economic Analysis using Micro Data(2003年2月、横浜)で発表した。
