京都大学医学部附属病院において生体肝移植術を施行される16歳以上のレシピエントおよびそのドナーに対して、移植術直前に各種心理検査や心理社会的評価を行い、術前術後の心理状態を比較した。また、移植術90日後と1〜3年後の全身状態と生存率を調査して術後経過の指標とし、術前の心理社会的状態との比較を行った。平成14年、15年は主にデータ収集を行い、平成16年には67組のレシピエント・ドナーに関するデータ整理を行って、以下の結果が得られた。すなわち、おもに心身連関を反映すると思われる移植術直後の経過は、家族間葛藤の有無や特定宗教の信仰の有無など社会的状況に左右され、おもに医療コンプライアンスを反映すると思われる数年間の長期経過は、術前の移植医療に関する理解度や就学年数と関連が深かった。逆に、術前の心理状態や精神障害の既往は、予測因子としては抽出されなかった。さらに、術前のレシピエントとドナーの心理検査の結果に相関関係があり、それはドナーとの同居、ドナーの積極性、ドナー選定のスムーズさ、家族からの圧力の少なさ、家族間葛藤ありの場合に相関はより強く認められた。研究成果は、日本精神病理学会第24回、第25回大会(平成14年、15年)、近畿精神神経学会第96回大会(平成16年)、ならびに国際移植学会第20回大会(平成16年、ウィーン)で発表し、かつ欧文雑誌に現在投稿中である。また、京都大学国際シンポジウム「医療の進歩と人間主体」(平成15年)や日本肝臓学会第8回大会シンポジウム「生体肝移植ドナーをめぐる諸問題」(平成16年)にシンポジストとして招かれ、研究成果を基に移植医療の心理的諸問題について講演を行った。
