怒り・敵意・攻撃性(anger, hostility, aggression : AHA)と虚血性心疾患の関連性を検討するために2つの研究を実施した。第一に、AHA傾向の他者評定法の有効性の検討を行った。従来、AHA傾向を測定する際には、その本人自身のAHA傾向を評定するが、この方法はその人の内省力や自分自身を良く見せようとする傾向(社会的望ましさ)によって回答が歪められるといわれている。このようなことを考慮して、AHA傾向を自分で評定した場合と他人が評定した場合でどのような違いがみられるかを検討した。その結果、AHA傾向を自分で評定した場合では社会的望ましさに影響を受けるが、他者が評定した場合ではそのような影響は受けないことが示された。また他者評定は親しいものが行った場合、特に正確である可能性が示された。第二に、虚血性心疾患を発症した患者のAHA傾向について調査を行った。対象は急性心筋梗塞を発症した患者40名であり、研究参加の同意を得た後に、質問紙への記入を依頼した。また患者の配偶者にも、患者のAHA傾向について評定(他者評定)を依頼した。健常群との比較を行った結果、健常群と比較して、患者群では敵意の得点の高いものの多い傾向が示された。つまり、敵意が虚血性心疾患発症の危険因子である可能性が示された。これらの結果から、虚血性心疾患の発症予防を考える際には、従来の生物学的な要因のみならずAHAなどの心理的な要因についても検討が必要であることが示された。
