项目摘要

本研究の目的は、従来北米文化を中心に行われてきた研究において、妥当であるとされてきた「幸福感の普遍性」に対して、これまで研究代表者が行ってきた研究成果を発展させ、文化に適応する結果として獲得される心理メカニズムの解明を行うことである。この際特に、精神健康・自己知覚と文化の関係に着目して研究を行っている。今年度は、昨年度調査した幸福感の対峙概念となる不幸せ感の意味構造の文化的差異について主に検証した。研究代表者は、所属研究期間である京都大学、およびアメリカ合衆国スタンフォード大学において、以下のような研究を行った。第1実験においては、日米の大学生を対象に、「不幸せ」という感情の特徴や、その感情を感じることによって生じる効果などについて、5つまで記入させた。次に、それらの記入事項がどのぐらい望ましいものであるかを評定させた。その結果、日本人の方がアメリカ人よりも不幸せの肯定的な意味を記述しがちであることが明らかになり、これまで普遍的と定義されてきた「幸福感」「不幸せ」の意味内容が、文化によって異なることが示唆された。さらに第2実験においては、第1実験で収集された多くの記述の中からランダムに90近くを選び出し、それらを別の被験者群に示し、意味の似ている物同士で記述を分類させた。このような分類課題によって、それぞれの記述の「類似性」のデータを得ることが出来る。このデータを元に、日米それぞれでどのような「不幸せの意味構造」が知覚されているのかを検討した結果、いずれの文化においても「対人的-個人的」「肯定的-否定的」という軸が抽出された。しかし、アメリカの記述はほとんどが「個人的-肯定的」なカテゴリーに所属するのに対し、日本の記述は「個人的-肯定的」「個人的-否定的」「対人的-肯定的」「対人的-否定的」のいずれのカテゴリーにもほぼ均一に見られることが示された。さらに今年度は、対人関係の意味や対入知覚のあり方の文化による違いも検討した。
