前年に引き続き、アラビア半島とシナイ半島の古代岩壁碑文を史料とする古代アラビア半島の交易路に関する実証的研究の一環として、現地調査・資料整理・研究・成果発表を行った。現地調査は、夏期・冬期にエジプトにて行った。夏期調査では、南シナイ州トゥール市の財団法人中近東文化センター研究施設に滞在し、南シナイにおける岩壁碑文調査を行った。今回は、主に6サイトにて再調査を行い、これまでに登録した碑文の読みを確認し、写真撮影、計寸を行った。その中で、新たな碑文の発見もあり、これらに関しては追加登録、筆写、計寸、簡易GPSによる測位を行った。冬期調査では、主に博物館、図書館での資料収集を行い、あわせて碑文データ入力、写真整理ならびに碑文集刊行の為の碑文トレースを作成した。関連文献資料については、夏と冬にロンドン、カイロの図書館および書店にて、必要な文献を入手ないしは複写・写真撮影した。また、研究成果の発表に関しては、今年度は海外を中心に行った。7月にロンドンの大英博物館にて開かれた国際学会であるアラビア学セミナー(Seminar for Arabian Studies)では、シナイ半島の岩壁碑文研究の成果を発表した。また、同セミナーの発行する学会誌にも投稿論文の掲載が決定している。また、昨年度に引き続き、東京外国語大学AA研のCOEプロジェクト「アジア文字コーパスに基づく文字情報学の創成」の一環として、これまでの南シナイでの岩壁碑文調査の成果をまとめた碑文集(英文)の刊行にも取り組んだ。
