项目摘要

In 1998, the head investigator and collaborators have proposed a "Gauge-Higgs Unification" scenario, where Higgs is identified with the extra space component of a higher dimensional gauge field and its mass is protected under the quantum correction, thanks to the higher dimensional gauge symmetry.In this research, the scenario was enlarged and investigated more deeply from various viewpoints.First, it was generalized to "Gravity-Gauge-Higgs Unification" scenario, where the Higgs is identified with the extra space component of a higher dimensional gravity field and its mass is protected by general coordinate invariance.We also investigated the mutual relation between the Gauge-Higgs Unification and the well-known scenario for solving the hierarchy problem, i.e. supersymmetry. Though at the first glance they seem to be completely different, they were found to be somehow related, in the sense that quantum mechanical supersymmetry is hidden in the Gauge-Higgs Unification scenario.Other investigators have also worked out interesting papers in this field. For instance, the attempts to construct a realistic model embodied with this scenario were done from various approach, such as putting the Gauge-Higgs Unification scenario on a curved space-time like 5-dimensional AdS space.
