年度前半は「カフカス地方の民族紛争における言語の役割」をテーマとする学位論文(英文)の完成に集中した。昨年度に実施したカフカス、特にアブハジアの現地調査で収集した一次資料とデータの分析を完了し、学位論文に十分に活用できた。執筆に際しては、広島大学大学院国際協力研究科における学位論文予備審査、福岡で開催された第20回国際敬治学会での報告における助言と評言にもとづき、理論的部分を補強し、言語の役割に関してカフカスの他の事例、特に南オセチアとナゴルノ・カラバフを加えた。学位論文は2006年7月の公聴会、最終審査を経て同年9月国際協力研究科教授会で授与が決まった。年度の後半は、広島大学大学院国際協力研究科の外国人客員研究員として受け入れられ、学位取得後の主要研究目標をふたつ定め研究に専念した。ひとつは、「民族囲い込み」概念を適用してソ連崩壊後のロシア連邦の民族間関係に光を当てることである。この研究では、旧ソ連の民族政策を今日のロシアにおける民族間関係の主要な問題点として分析する概念装置としての「民族囲い込み」の有効性を確認し、2006年9月ロシア連邦トムスクでの国際会議でi報告した。この報告はトムスク教育大学紀要Vestnikにロシア語で、宏大学平和科学研究センターの英文研究報告20号に英文で掲載された。また、北カフカスとロシア連邦の他の地域の旧自治州の現地調査の結果をまとめ、トムスク教育大学出版の「平和学と教育における平和のデイスコース」に「ソ連崩壊後の地方史教科書における相互的民族囲い込み」なる1章を寄稿した。また、2007年には、広島大学平和科学研究センターより学位論文の改定版を出版の予定である。第二の主要研究テーマは、「民族囲い込み」概念の有効性を旧ソ連以外の地域で検証することである。コロンビアとカリブ海地域の現地調査と聞き取り調査により民族間の関係において言語の果たす役割について資料とデータを収集した。この資料に加え、コロンビア高等工業教育大学が収集した資料によれば、コロンビアにおいては民族間の緊張が高まり、言語がそれに重要な役割を果たし始める兆候が観察される。実際、特定の民族集団が一定の地理的範囲を囲い込む際の重要な基準として、言語が広範に利用され始めている。これはラテンアメリカ諸国の国内紛争における新たなしかも重要な特徴となりつつある。また、アラブ語集団、スペイン語集団、英語クレオール集団から成るカリブ海のサンアンドレス島の事例研究は、民族間関係における言語の役割に関する貴重な一次資料となるものである。コロンビアの民族関係における言語の役割については近く論文を公表の予定である。
