本研究の目的は、近代日本において学校で教えられるべき知識(「教育知識」)の選択・編成に社会的な利害関心や価値選択がいかに反映されてきたかを、初等・高等に比べて利害関心の交錯が著しかった中等レベルに焦点化し、科学系の教科を主たるフィールドとして歴史的・実証的に明らかにすることである。具体的には、中等レベルの学校種によって、科学系の教科書の内容にどのような違いがあったか、そこに執筆者の諸特性と関わりがみられたか、また、科学教育に関して世論や外部社会がどのように認識していたか等を探ることで、日本の近代化過程における知と社会集団の関係について理論的枠組みの構築をはかることをねらいとしている。この目的のもと、前年度から引き続き実施した作業のほか、今年度は下記の作業を行った。1.地域的な教育要求の分析事例とする地域(東京・埼玉・宮城)のローカルな教育要求の分析を行った。2.教育知識の生産プロセスの分析教科書の出版状況・利用状況の分析、自然科学関係・科学教育関係の各種雑誌記事・新聞記事についての整理・分析、科学教育上の重要人物や技術者等の評伝・自叙伝の収集・分析について徹底を期した。教科書執筆者や雑誌記事等の執筆者の諸属性を、教科書出版界の地域性・階層性との関連で分析し、社会集団としての教育知識生産の担い手による葛藤と戦略のダイナミズムを分析した。3.先行研究の整理と理論の精緻化教育社会学をはじめ、科学社会学、歴史社会学、科学史・技術史、社会経済史、社会史、出版印刷史などの関連分野の先行研究を収集・検討し、知識の「使用」と「商品化」を視野に入れた理論の精緻化を行った。
